Chapter 2-Desire: The Starting
Point of All Achievement

Why did Edwin Barnes succeed in becoming a business partner with
Mr. Edison?

It started with a burning desire! Not hope! Not a wish! Barnes chose
a definite goal, placed all his energy, all his will power, all his
effort, everything back of that goal. It may not have been on the day
he arrived, but in his mind, he was in business with Edison. He was
content to do the most menial work, as long as it provided an
opportunity to take even one step toward his cherished goal.

There is real power in having a Definite Burning Desire. Barnes had
his eyes looking forward toward his ultimate goal of being a business
associate of Mr. Edison, more than he wanted anything else. He created
a plan by which to attain that purpose. There was no looking in the
rearview mirror he had burned all the bridges behind him. He stood
surefooted in his desire allowing it became the commanding compulsion
of his life, and it became a fact.

“Only those who become “money conscious” ever accumulate great riches.
Money consciousness” means that the mind has become so thoroughly
saturated with the desire for money, that one can see one’s self already
in possession of it.” Napoleon Hill

“Money consciousness” or the desire for money is not about just having
money and is not a love of money When we think of having money, we think
of opportunities for independence, leisure, privacy, time to do and act
as we wish. Unfortunately, a lack of money translates into yet another
reason to put ourselves down.

One the audio we listened to when we first came to Mentoring for Free has
“Being All In”. This chapter on Desire is calling, shouting “Nathan it’s
time to be-all-in in everything you do. All in the building relationships,
writing lessons, being on the calls, inviting others to get “Success in 10
Steps”, being open with a listening ear and as a mentor with a servant’s
heart. Have that burning desire to share my story that could change the
life of someone else.

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full
potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal
excellence.” Confucius

The door of my personal best is before me and it is time the fan that
burning desire that says, “I will do whatever it takes.”

Thanks to Linda and Michael Dlouhy for following your burning desire in
building this mastermind which has been a blessing to all of us. To this
family at Mentoring for Free, my love and gratitude for the desire each
of you bring each week.

Nathan Grimes.
