Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 15
How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear
Hill states, “INDECISION is the seedling of FEAR! Remember this, as you read. Indecision crystalizes into DOUBT, the two blend and become FEAR!” He later lists the 6 basic fears as, “The fear of POVERTY The fear of CRITICISM The fear of ILL HEALTH The fear of LOSS OF LOVE OF SOMEONE The fear of OLD AGE The fear of DEATH.”
Right now, due to the Corona Virus, the world is facing ALL 6 of these fears. Hill also points out that “The Sixth Sense will never function while these three negatives, or any of them remain in your mind.” And what do we need most when fear comes into our lives…the Sixth Sense.
My husband and I have been entrepreneurs, starting our own businesses for over 40 of our 53 years together. There have been many good experiences and several devastating ones. It’s one thing to have no money and quite another to be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt with no money.
Due to the Corona Virus, we now, perhaps like some of you, can’t do our service and sales work, which has been our main income for the last 10 years. In the past, I was filled with fear, anxiety and even shortness of breath when something stopped our income. Now I am relaxed, full of trust and calmness and know it will be fine.
What to do? We know we have to go into the cut-it-all-back mode. AND, we know it is temporary….we are taking precautions to stay healthy and most likely we will not die. Today, I feel fortunate for the many experiences that have prepared me for this time and would like to share some ideas that may help someone else.
What can be done about my regular monthly bills, &, btw, it is easier now that so many of us are in the same boat:
Call your bank or any place you have loans to pay monthly. Let them know you have temporarily lost your income, & your wife/husband if that is the case has also lost theirs.. It's just like Network Marketing, not asking is a no, so Ask the following:
How can I defer my payments for 2 or 3 months (start big) They will tell you. They may only be able to defer for 1 month. The interest for these months will be added later to the total. Do it.
Then ask if they have any plan to lower your payments and interest when you start paying again. One of mine cut the interest in half and the payments in half for a year after the deferred month.
For car payments, & I think this is the easiest, let them know the situation and ask if they will defer your payments for 1-2 months (ask for 2 first). They do this regularly for people in a tight situation. It extends your loan the same amount of time at the end.
If you can’t pay your utility bills, call and explain. They may have a charity that helps people in need who will pay the bill or at least they will allow you to pay a small portion of the bill for a few months and then let you pay the remaining bill over several months along with your regular bill.
If things are so desperate that you do not have food, contact FEMA. They may not have food available, but they help with many disaster bills and can guide you. In our town there is a family assistance program where people pick up food.
