Chapter 2 - Desire
Hill tells us “You may as well know, right here, that you can never have
riches in great quantities, UNLESS you can work yourself into a white
heat of DESIRE for money, and actually BELIEVE you will possess it.
A BURNING DESIRE TO BE, AND TO DO is the starting point from
which the dreamer must take off. Dreams are not born of indifference,
laziness, or lack of ambition.”
Just because the title of this book is "Think and Grow Rich" does not
mean we only have to think about being rich and the money will show
up in your bank account.
Yes, it does have to show up in our mind as a dream, a dream so real
that we believe and act as if it were already a reality. It cannot only be
in our mind, it has to carry through to the things we do and the actions we take.
Hill has been quoted as saying "Many people think they want to be successful,
but since they do not back that thought with an intense drive, they never
achieve success. Cultivate your desire. Feed it with thoughts of yourself
enjoying whatever it is you seek. It’s like stoking the furnace of a steam engine.
You need to build up enough pressure to carry yourself over hills; if your desire
doesn’t burn hotly enough, you’ll find yourself stalled and rolling backwards.
The secret to action is a red-hot desire.”
Do we have that red hot burning desire?
Are we stalled and rolling backwards or are we stoking the furnace and
carrying ourselves over the hills?
