CHAPTER 2 DESIRE THE STARTING POINT OF ALL ACHIEVEMENT
The First Step toward Riches
WHEN Edwin C. Barnes climbed down from the freight train in Orange, N. J., more than thirty years ago, he may have resembled a tramp, but his thoughts were those of a king!
As he made his way from the railroad tracks to Thomas A. Edison's office, his mind was at work. He saw himself standing in Edison's presence. He heard himself asking Mr. Edison for an opportunity to carry out the one CONSUMING OBSESSION OF HIS LIFE, a BURNING DESIRE to become the business associate of the great inventor. Napoleon Hill
Here is a guy who looks like a tramp coming to become a business partner of the great Edison. He didn't care what anyone else thought of him. He had a BURNING DESIRE and nothing, nor anyone was going to stand in his way of accomplishing his BURNING DESIRE.
Edison was a good judge of people. He saw in Barnes eyes a determination of a determined man. So, Edison gave him a job as a janitor.
It took 5 years for the opportunity came. Barnes was the only one who wanted the job.
General George Washington crossed the Delaware river to attach the mighty British soldiers. He had the boats burned. There was no escape, win or perish. They won.
After the Chicago fire, Marshal Field was the only merchant to stay and rebuild. Rebuild he did. The building was still standing 50 years later in 1937.
To develop a burning desire, Hill gives us six steps we must complete.
Step 1: Fix in our mind the exact amount of money You desire.
Step 2: Determine exactly what You will give for the money.
Step 3: Establish a definite date when You will get that money.
Step 4: Create a definite plan for carrying out Your desire.
Step 5: Write out a clear, concise statement of each of the four steps above.
Step 6: Read Your written statement aloud twice daily, morning and evening. Visualize Yourself already in possession of the money.
These steps must be followed for the attainment of any definite goal.
Edison was a tramp telegraph operator before becoming the world's greatest inventor.
There are several more examples of famous men who had a BURNING DESIRE and became very successful.
Since 1937 when Think and Grow Rich was published, there have been millions of people who have used Hill's principles to become very successful.
What is holding us back. Do we take the Mentoring For Free skill calls lightly? Do we have an excuse to not even read Success In 10 Steps?
