The Fifth Step toward Riches

THE IMAGINATION IS LITERALLY THE WORKSHOP

wherein are fashioned all plans created by man.  The

impulse, the DESIRE, is given shape, form, and ACTION

through the aid of the imaginative facualty of the mind.

MAN'S ONLY LIMITATION, within reason, LIES IN HIS

DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF HIS IMAGINATION.  

TWO FORMS OF IMAGINATION

The imaginative faculty functions in two forms.  One is

known as "synthetic imagination" and the other as 

"Creative Imagination."

The moment you reduce the statement of your desire,

and a plan for its realization, to writing,  you have 

actually TAKEN THE FIRST of a series of steps, 

which will enable yo to convert the thought into

its physical counterpart.

Hill give us two examples in this chapter -- 

(1)  The Enchanted Kettle

The old country doctor had a "recipe and large kettle including

a big wooden paddle"  which he sold to the young drug store

clerk who had "an idea"  for $500.00 which was the clerk's 

life savings.  That was the beginning of what we now know 

as "Coca-Cola."

(2)  WHAT I WOULD DO IF I HAD A MILLION DOLLARS

While Dr. Frank W. Gunsaulus was going through college, he

observed many defects in our educational system, defects 

which he believed he could correct, if he were the head of

a college.  His deepest desire was to become the directing

head of an educational enstitution in which young men and

women would be taught to "learn by doing"

Over time he gave this idea a great deal of thought and it 

became a burning desire when he decided this would be 

the topic of his upcoming sermon.  He made a public 

announcement regarding the subject and prayed that the

right person would attend (and I think trusted God with the

outcome).  Phillip D. Armour attended that day and was

impressed with the idea "Reverend, I liked your sermond.

I believe you can do everything you said you would, if you

had a million dollars.  To prove that I velieve in you and 

your sermon, if you will come to my office tomorrow morning, 

I will give you the million dollars."  -- Thus the Armour 

Institute of Technology was founded.
