Chapter 3 - Faith

Reading this chapter makes me think of Barnes.
We know he had a desire, a huge desire.  But as HIll
points out desire is not enough.  We have to have faith.
But, faith in what?

Did Barnes have faith in Edison?  Did Barnes have
faith in the Railroad to get him there?  What if they
kicked him off the train?  Then what?  Would he have
gone home?

I believe Barnes had faith in himself.  He had faith
in getting on the Railroad and if they kicked him off
I believe he would have found another way to get to
where Edison was.  He had faith in himself because
he knew inside himself that he was not a quitter.
If Edison would not have seen him the first time, Barnes
would have gone back as many times as it took for
Edison to take him seriously.

It did not matter to Barnes that he got a menial job,
he was working where Edison was and his dream was in the
beginning stages.  He had faith in himself to be able to
learn what he needed to learn.  He had faith in his abilities.
He had faith that he would be there when the opportunity
showed up and he had faith that he would recognize the
opportunity for what it was.

He had faith that he could sell a machine that everyone else
said could not be sold.

Hill tells us "FAITH removes limitations!"

Barnes did not see any limitations because his faith removed
them all.

Hill writes "Repetition of affirmation of orders to your
subconscious mind is the only known method of voluntary development
of the emotion of faith."  We call this self talk.

What do we have faith in?  Do we have faith in ourselves?
Are we willing to put the time in because we have the faith
that we are not quitters and quit when the times get tough?

Are we willing to get on that "train"? Are we willing to work
for years without seeing the end result right away?
Do we have limitations in our faith?

Brad Henry says "Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place.
Have faith in your own abilities, work hard, and there is
nothing you cannot accomplish."

Barnes knew this in his heart and followed through until
he achieved his dream.
