Chapter 5-Specialized Knowledge

Accumulation of Knowledge does not give one power.  Using knowledge for a definite purpose does give you power because you have more of a choice in what occupation you want to pursue..

I was educated in a college of education.  Because most of the students who in this college wanted to be a teacher when they were finished, we had to take not only classes in the subject you wanted to teach, there were other classes of how to manage a classroom, etc.  This was especially true for those of us who wanted to teach the younger children in the primary or elementary grades.

In some elementary schools they have teachers who work in teams so they can call on their teammate to teach the subject that they don’t feel so proficient.

By the time a student has reached 7th or 8th grade the curriculum is divided into projects where they use the skills of reading, writing, art, music, science, history and math.  My granddaughter is in a school where they are now studying the Cold War.  This is a subject the is not well known in the USA because we weren’t influenced by it.  In Eastern Europe, it was a different story.  Since I lived in Lithuania for 101/2 years, I learned a lot about the Cold war.  My granddaughter has asked me about this experience.  I feel she is gaining a knowledge which will help her realize why some of the countries involved with this Cold War do not respect Americans as they call us.  I didn’t like this connotation when I lived in Lithuania so I just said I was from Alaska and they were curious about that.  This Subject of the  Cold War is one that could bring in all kinds of knowledge in different fields.

I hope that my granddaughter will have a different outlook on all the countries that are across the pond as they say by learning about some of the suffering these countries had to endure. She will learn about the contributions to art, music, science, math and many other fields of endeavor  that came from there as well.

Thank you for letting me share.  This group is a good place to broaden our specialized knowledge.
