Chapter 4 Auto-suggestion

The Third Step towards Riches

I'm brand new to Mentoring for Free. Tony suggested that I listen to the Wednesday Night call. That call was on 'Faith'. I didn't realize at the time that the call was a 'live' call rather than a canned recording. Shortly after the call Tony sent me to the Think and Grow Rich Lessons. I read the book years ago but could no longer find it in my library so I proceeded to find a place to download the book. I was successful. Then I discovered that the lesson text and audio was available on the website.

As I was reading other peoples lessons I experienced my first moment of panic because I was asked to submit my lesson. I've been shaking in my boots all week about submitting. I don't consider myself a good writer. Auto-suggestion over the years. “I don't know how to write and certainly not what to write.”

But I am here being mentored to learn and open my mind. What I have learned so far is that you have to practice and have faith that you can do it.

As I was reading Chapter 4 (downloaded copy) I realized that whenever I self talk a little devil pops up almost simultaneously saying “I don't know how I'm going to make more money. I don't have the skills. I can't do this.” I was jeopardizing myself.

I didn't have “Absolute Control” over the material which reached my subconscious mind.

“The ability to use the principle of auto-suggestion will depend, very largely, upon your capacity to CONCENTRATE upon a given DESIRE until that desire becomes a BURNING OBSESSION.

How does one develop a “Burning Obsession”? I may be wrong but I don't think it is something that can be developed, rather I think that it comes from within your heart.

I started to think back over my life and I know exactly when I had a “Burning Desire and Obsession”.

When I was very young, maybe 5 or 6 all I wanted was a horse. The Obsession stayed with me over the years. I watched horse movies, events on TV involving horses, read horse books and hung out around riding stables for years. I kept bugging my dad for a horse. One day my dad said “If you want a horse you have to earn the money and buy it yourself.” When I was 16 I went to work over the summer and had enough money by September to buy a horse. Casey was his name and he was a retired Standardbred racehorse (sulky trotter) that didn't even know how to gallop. I never gave up until I had attained what I desired.

Fast forward to now. Maybe my “WHY” isn't strong enough because I can't conjure up the “Burning Obsession” which I had naturally had when I was young.

I believe that by learning how and what to do to reach my goal I will start to believe that it is within my grasp. I'll be able to squash that little devil and stop him from popping up and put doubt in my mind.

Through my mentoring with Tony I have learned about how and where to advertise and am applying that new skill and through videos that Tony pointed me to, especially “the colors video and chart” that I've watched and studied and the “Success in 10 Steps” book and re-reading “Think and Grow Rich” I now feel more confident that when I talk to people I am better prepared.

I now believe that I can attain my “WHY”. 'Making more money to be able to support the lifestyle that I've become accustomed to.' Other people in my upline have done it and so can I. I know that it's just a matter of TIME until I get there.

Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes TIME to master the skill, craft and habit and while it's good to keep perspective on one's dreams, it's better to remember the other side of the story. “Rome wasn't built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour.” - a quote from James Clear.

Thank you to my coaches Tony Harnett and Michael Dlouhy for exposing me to my 'Real Self' and Michael's book “Success in 10 Steps” which started this journey on March 25 (10 days ago).
