CHAPTER 2 DESIRE THE STARTING
POINT OF ALL ACHIEVEMENT

“You may as well know, right here, that you can never
have riches in great quantities, UNLESS you can work
yourself into a white heat of DESIRE for money, and
actually BELIEVE you will possess it.” Napoleon Hill

Here is a true story about the importance of desire. This
is a story of a conversation that some of you have had.
Two 18 years young girls were talking their dorm room at
college. One had just returned from her second date with her
new boyfriend. She was telling her roommate that he was the
one. Yes, he one she was going to marry. They stayed up into
the morning hours deciding how or what she had to do make
sure that he got the idea and thought it has his. I have no
doubts that she must have had a BURNING DESIRE.

Hill makes a point is stating that desiring riches with a state
of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways
and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with
persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.

Hill gave us a 6 steps method to transmute the desire for riches
of any sort into its physical or financial equivalents. The best
summary of these steps is in step 5: “Write out a clear, concise
statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name
the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in
return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which
you intend to accumulate it.” The real action step which must be
followed is the step: “Read your written statement aloud, twice
daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising
in the morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE
YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.”

Back to those two girls, they had spent the night putting together
a plan. The very next day she started putting the plan into action.
Her time table was set, she had a map to follow. She going to get
her man. She stayed on focus with one thought and one desire.

Now, I heard this after the fact. You see one who had made the
decision this is one for her was Connie and I was the target. Now
you must understand I was a moving target with my own agenda.
But am I thankful Connie had a burning desire and stayed on focus.
Did she did have to adjust or change her plans, yet but stayed on
target. She will tell you that I did surprise her by proposing six weeks
later, she had allowed 6 months. I can surprise her occasionally
even after 49 years. I still say it was my idea!

Whether, looking for a mate, a business, a job, or riches all starts
with a thought fueled by a burning desire and as we will learn next
strengthen by faith.
