Quote “Son, they can’t shoot you and they can’t make you pregnant” – my Mum
These words I remember vividly from my childhood and even into my early adult years because as a Green personality I often struggled to make a decision, any decision, on what I felt to be an important issue, whether to go to sea or take the land based job offer I had or whether to buy my first house or wait a few years?
Although pretty certainly no longer PC, those few words helped me understand that often what at first seemed pretty major choices were, in the grand scheme of things not that big a deal. Even if the decision I eventually made, proved to be incorrect, no great harm would be done because I would only need to accept I had made the error and make a new plan based on better information.
In this chapter Mr. Hill focuses largely on events leading up to the Declaration of Independence and the enormous courage shown by a small number of men because at that point, they could easily have been shot. Fortunately for most of us our decisions do not carry that level of risk.
He also states, “The majority of people who fail to accumulate money sufficient for their needs, are, generally, easily influenced by the “opinions” of others. They permit the newspapers and the “gossiping” neighbours to do their “thinking” for them. “Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of opinions ready to be wished upon anyone who will accept them. If you are influenced by “opinions” when you reach DECISIONS, you will not succeed in any undertaking, much less in that of transmuting YOUR OWN DESIRE into money”.
Here in the UK, there is a growing level of mistrust and cynicism in the quality of information coming from all forms of media and readers are beginning to understand most of the media rarely allow facts to get in the way of a good story, especially if it means pursuing their own narrow agenda or vested interests.
Hill further states “If you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no DESIRE of your own. Keep your own counsel, when you begin to put into practice the principles described here, by reaching your own decisions and following them. Take no one into your confidence, EXCEPT the members of your “Master Mind” group, and be very sure in your selection of this group, that you choose ONLY those who will be in COMPLETE SYMPATHY AND HARMONY WITH YOUR PURPOSE.”
In our case Mentoring for Free, is our preferred Master Mind group where the shared experiences, coaching and support have over the years proved, that “in union, there is strength!”
My thanks to Michael and Linda, coaches and leaders, past and present, every reader and contributor for their constancy and unfailing support.
