Chapter 6-Imagination-the Workshop of

the Mind

Mr.  Hill says in this chapter that Imagination is the workshop of the mind.  What is a workshop?  I have always thought of a workshop as a place where action takes place on an idea.  It is a place where plans are made to carry out an idea formulated in the mind. This idea has a burning desire that is forcing the mind to take action.

On this day 61 years ago my husband and I took our vows to love and cherish each other until death we depart . Let me say that we have had to use our imagination many times to create a situation we both could live with.  To have a special gift for us this afternoon  we went to a theater that is called Roadhouse Cinemas where you can sit in nice lounge chairs and eat a meal while watching a movie.  The movie we saw was the “Greatest show on Earth,” about P.T. Barnum and his dream of creating a circus that would be the Greatest Show on Earth.

Mr. Barnum had a dream of presenting to the public a show that would make everyone happy.  He created a show that  brought in unusual people that couldn’t be accepted by other people because of some kind of deformity or because they had a talent that didn’t fit in with other forms of show business.  Mr. Barnum wanted to help them know that they could be happy by showing others how to be happy.  The participants in the show became very close friends.

There was group of people who couldn’t accept Mr Barnum’s idea of show business and they taunted the participants in the show by treating them like they were freaks .

They even went so far as to burn the building where this show took place.  Everyone was crushed but after some grieving Mr. Barnum realized he didn’t need a building for his show; he could use a tent.  This is when they were able to take the show on the road and use tents every where they went.

Mr. Barnum was always using his imagination. He hired people that were unusual and because he showed that he trusted them to do their best he didn’t have to worry about people quitting.  His philosophy of making people happy was incorporated in all he did.  He was always searching for more opportunities to make the show better.

He put his ideas into plans which others could help with.

This was a great movie to learn how one can use their imagination.
