“I never approach the discussion of the subconscious mind without a feeling littleness and inferiority due, perhaps, to the fact that man’s entire stock of knowledge on this subject is so pitifully limited.” Without the subconscious mind none of the thirteen principles mentioned as the foundations for personal and financial success could be used; in fact, we wouldn’t even be able to think. Hill’s definition of the subconscious mind illustrates this. He describes the subconscious mind as follows: “The subconscious mind consists of a field of consciousness in which every impulse of thought that reaches the conscious mind through any of the five senses is classified and recorded, and from which thoughts may be recalled or withdrawn as letters may be taken from a filing cabinet.” Without a permanent memory-bank for thoughts and feelings, one could not talk about self-improvement as there would be no dominant thoughts or habit-memory to change.

Whenever Michael Dlouhy is asked for the secret of his success, he replies “Self-talk, self-talk, self-talk”. Although the senses cannot avoid encountering the presence of the negative feelings of fear, jealousy, hatred, revenge, greed, superstition in our worlds, we can consciously bar them from influencing our subconscious minds. Hill says: “Moreover you will control the door so completely that no undesirable thought may influence your subconscious mind.” The way we do this is by ensuring that the dominant thoughts and feelings in our subconscious minds are those of desire, faith, love, sex, enthusiasm, romance, hope.

The key which controls access to our subconscious minds is autosuggestion or self-talk. Make sure that the key is the right one by first discovering your ‘why’ and building a self-talk that reflects this. Then you will need to charge the self-talk with positive emotions, such as faith, and repeat it in a concentrated, self-aware way with visualization many times daily. Lastly be patient and persistent; it takes time to change the habits of a lifetime. Hill says: “Form the habit of applying and using the positive emotions! Eventually they will dominate your mind so completely that the negatives cannot enter it.”

Once in control of the mind and guiding it the positive direction you want it to go, your subconscious mind is able to enlist the help of Infinite Intelligence to supply your creative imagination with the plans and ideas to help you realize your desires. If your dominant thoughts are pure and life-sustaining, I believe that Infinite Intelligence, that is God, the Creator of the universe, will not withhold assistance.
