PERSISTENCE: THE SUSTAINED EFFORT NECESSARY TO INDUCE FAITH

The Eighth Step toward Riches

“PERSISTENCE is an essential factor in the procedure of transmuting DESIRE into its monetary equivalent”. “The basis of persistence is the POWER OF WILL”.

“Will-power and desire, when properly combined, make an irresistible pair. The eagerness with which you follow these instructions will indicate clearly, how much, or how little you really DESIRE to accumulate money. If you find that you are indifferent, you may be sure that you have not yet acquired the “money consciousness” which you must possess, before you can be sure of accumulating a fortune”, states Mr. Hill and follows these words with examples of famous names renowned for the attributes of Will power and persitstence as being responsible for much of their success.

One of the best personal examples of persistence and willpower I have seen is involved a dumper truck driver /welder from a small town in Scotland who responded to my National advertisement early in 1997.

In our first conversation, I learnt about his four-hour commute to and from a ten-hour working day and having to work a six-day week to cover his bills, leaving little spare time and no spare money with which to start a business.

By the third conversation, some four weeks later he had accumulated the initial £20.00 sign-up fee.

The first goal we set together was for him to reach an extra income of £500.00 a month, a target he reached in five months by literally following faithfully each step of the then system. By now, he was itching to leave his job but reluctantly agreed not to do so until his ‘part time’ profit hit one and a half times his then income for three consecutive months.

In Sept. 1997, I returned home to a message telling me I would not approve of what he had done but could I call him. I bet you are already way ahead of me about that phone call, and yes, he had quit his job early to focus on building his new business and income.

Over the next four years we shared in many of his ‘first’s’: Tears when his first passport arrived, excitement at his first ever stay in a hotel, huge smiles boarding the aircraft for his first flight and ecstatic joy charging up and down Yong St. in Toronto with his new camera taking hundreds of pictures to show family and friends at home.

Our industry abounds with stories like this but this one sticks out more for me than any in reminding me our task is not simply recruiting and selling but also to be aware of the impact we can have on lives with the gift of success we are able to offer those willing to learn and stick with it.
