Chapter 9 Persistence

The Eighth Step toward Riches

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer”. Albert Einstein

The energy upon which persistence is based is “will power”. Hill states: “PERSISTENCE is an essential factor in the procedure of transmuting DESIRE into its monetary equivalent. The basis of persistence is the POWER OF WILL”.
In the previous chapters we have looked at the transmuting of a dream into a passionate Desire, by faith we believe in its attainment and by the aid of Auto-suggestion (Self Talk) we have made known our requirement to the Universe (God). We have sought specialised knowledge through our Master Mind, where we are lacking to help in the formulating of definite organised plans.

We have been told that those who achieve change their plans rarely except in rare circumstance. However those who fail do so because they lack faith and also persistence. All the great inventors and industrialists had persistence and were often characterised as being ruthless and cold blooded. Ford persisted in his manufacturing of the Model “T” against advice and criticism from those around him. Edison had more than 10,000 failures before he perfected the incandescent light bulb.

Many of my greatest achievements have come since I was not prepared to quit at the first signs of failure. As an athlete in my younger days and with a passion for rowing, I spent many hours practicing the techniques necessary to ensure perfect harmony of each stroke whether as a single oarsman or as part of a team. This often involved hours of practice in a static tank where techniques could be analysed and corrected without affecting others. The technique was then transferred to work in unison with others in a team.

In my Professional Career as Research Engineer initially I was often faced with breaking new ground, this could be frustrating and cause many occasions when it would have been easy to say “Impossible” but to me this translated into I’m possible and so I would persist until a breakthrough was found.

Remember always the following quote: “A quitter never wins and a winner never quits”.

As Network Marketer, I have come up against many obstacles and things that did not work. I have asked myself the question What if I changed some simple thing in the plan or the advertising. Recently I ran a campaign to advertise products using a very informative full colour flyer alongside a very simple matter of fact flyer, in black and white, to see which worked and produced the most results. The coloured flyer produced zero results in the 90 day period whilst the black and white flyer produced on average 1 enquiry per 100 flyers.

When analysed and discussed within a Master Mind Group it was agreed that too much information and also a flamboyant picture produced adverse effects as against the humble black and white. I could have dismissed flyers as an advertising medium simple because of the coloured flyers results, however I persisted and showed flyers can produce results with the right media and content.

Passionate Desire when coupled with Will Power will produce Persistence.

“I will persist until I succeed. Always will I take another step. If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult. I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.
