CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
THE MAN WHO "THOUGHT" HIS WAY INTO PARTNERSHIP WITH THOMAS A. EDISON
I am the man who "Thought" his way into a partnership with Michael Dlouhy.
Why not? Let's look at the similarities between what Edwin C. Barnes did when he
went to work for Thomas A. Edison and what I am doing here in Mentoring For
I am studying Michael Dlouhy. I listen to how he does things and I attempt to
implement them in a similar way.
Barnes, while sweeping floors and empting trash, was studying Edison. You can
bet he had a keen eye, watching for his opportunity, getting hunches or
inspirations. Similar to what I do.
After about 5 years, Barnes found his opportunity to make an impact. He went
into business with Edison. He did not quit. He was determined to stand by his
desire until he realized it. Similar to what I am doing.
After this last Saturday evening live client call, I have found a way to make an
impact. Who know where it will lead, but one thing is sure, it will lead in the
direction I want to go. As a result of this opportunity, there will be other
opportunities open up.
A similar thing happened to me when I was going to college. I was going to night
school, taking 9 semester hours. Being married the GI Bill part time pay wasn't
enough, so I went looking for a part-time day job.
I found one right away as a stock boy at a convenience store on base. I stocked
and checked in groceries as they were delivered. One of the bread delivery men
asked me if I wanted a job. I was open to listening, so had an appointment with
the General Manager who was in town at a motel. I interviewed and was soon
offered a job. Better than the stock boy job.
Then I got a letter of availability for the Post Office on base. That job paid
much more and I always knew I would get off work at 5PM for a 6 PM class. It was
the ideal job for the situation. I got 40 hours at a good hourly wage.
The same kind of situations will present themselves when I take advantage of an
opportunity that will make an impact; giving organizations the color personality
This happened, because I was on a call, am taking action to contact people who
will benefit from the colors knowledge. The obvious organizations are business,
but there are others, like civic organizations. They are always looking for
people who will give a presentation on an interesting topic.
I am grateful to Linda and Michael Dlouhy for their 40 years of persistence to
find what works. This Mentoring For Free system is a complete, proven,
duplicateable system that covers all aspects of a person's life and business.
Teaching the skills needed to be ready to apply them when an opportunity
presents itself. Thank You, thank You, thank You Linda and Michael Dlouhy.
I am also grateful for the Mentoring For Free members who attend our weekly
calls and contribute their brilliance to the current topic. Without them our
training would not be complete. Thank You, thank You, thank You to each one of
