Chapter 15 How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear
HOW TO OUTWIT THE SIX GHOSTS OF FEAR
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave Man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Nelson Mandela.
Every time I read this chapter it takes me back to childhood memories, and my lack of fear. Living in the WWII years in London and the bombing thereof, provided many adventure sites to play “Cops and Robbers”, “Cowboys and Indians” and many other games which the back drop of a bomb site can conjure up. We had no fears that there could be unexploded bombs or incendiaries lurking in the rubble or we could fall into a cellar of the building. To us they were a play ground. Likewise trees held a fascination for climbing to see who could get to the highest limb.
I was only when elders entered the scene that fear began to germinate, mainly because only the punishment for doing these things was ever muted, not the reasons and dangers behind such playgrounds. Fear began to enter into my life.
Hill states, “Fear is a State of Mind”, if then by applying the principles contained in this book, “Think and Grow Rich”, we have the ability to own our Minds. By Self Talk, auto suggestion, we are able to change our negative, poverty, etc thinking mind, produced by our influencers during our most educatable years of “What to Think”, to a positive thinking mind, where riches abound in abundance and we have learnt “How to Think”.
Throughout my life at different times I have encountered the six ghost of fear to greater and lesser extents. I have always found the most effective way to combat them is by direct confrontation. I was once confronted with the Fear of Poverty in the form of bankruptcy; I lost a great deal of money a thriving Laundromat Business and the possibility of my Engineering Company. I knew I could survive given time and trade out of the situation. I could not run the Company as a Director under the Law. However my Daughter came up with the solution. She would become the Director and I could be the Technical Advisor until such time that we traded out of the bankruptcy and seven years elapsed. After that she handed the Company back and continued with her life.
My greatest fear though has always been talking to people and especially strangers. I could always talk to an audience of many people, like I believe it was Dawn said with an audience she was in control. Since joining the Mentoring for Free Family and particularly this forum I am overcoming even that fear and now find I can talk to strangers and even start the conversation.
Thank you to Linda and Michael Dlouhy for this forum and all it accomplishes each week as a Master Mind Group of Like Minds with a willingness to assist other members in their quest to overcome the six Ghosts of Fear and a willingness to share their experience and learning. Thank you, thank you , thank you with a grateful heart.
