Chapter 14 The Sixth Sense

There comes to your aid, and to do your bidding, with the development of the sixth sense, a "guardian angel"
who will open to you at all times the door to the temple of wisdom. --Napoleon Hill

In mystical traditions the 6th sense is known as the third eye.  Located in the middle of the forehead it is considered to be a connecting link between the physical world we live in and the spiritual world, which we can't see or touch with physical senses.   Yet as Hill says, when we access it we are opening the door to the "temple of wisdom."  In other words, everything we need to live a fulfilling life is there, available for the taking....if we know how to access and use the information.

While using the 6th sense may seem like a mysterious process, very new age and "woo woo," in fact receiving this wisdom is something that happens every day, along with the consequences of ignoring it when it arrives. For example  maybe you get a hunch about making a call to someone who is a customer or a potential distributor....but you put it off. You're too busy or you tell yourself you don't want to bother them, or you're terrified of the phone. Then you learn that the customer decided to cancel their autoship when they stopped hearing from you or that your distributor prospect joined another company.

Experiences like that are the Universe sending hunches from the temple of wisdom and giving us feedback about the consequences of not taking action.  And the hunches come all the time ranging from small stuff like an inner reminder to stop for coffee because you are totally out at home, to something dramatic like getting an urge to get off the highway at an earlier than usual exit, only to learn later that you missed being part of a big pile-up by doing so.

In addition to being alert to the hunches that come in and taking action on them, it is a good idea to not make assumptions about where the hunch will take us. I once followed a hunch to call an individual who turned out to be a terrific distributor.  She got off to a fast start earning all the bonuses and even an iPad that was part of a contest after she decided she needed one and quickly sponsored about 10 people in a very short period of time.  I thought I had it made and got lazy about continuing to build my business.  So it was a real shock when she abruptly quit and moved on to something else.

I was guilty of assuming that because I followed a hunch the Universe was in my corner and I didn't have to keep working.  After all would the Universe steer me wrong? The answer to that is no, but there was a larger purpose at work here and my assumptions about what it was were not correct.  I did learn some important lessons, not the least of which is not to make assumptions like this.

As I look back over my life  I can see where these experiences happen often and are the source of many important life learnings...though they can be painful.

Imagine if I had continued to move forward with my business, building on the momentum and learning what I could from this woman when she was around.  Maybe I would be in a very different place today with that company. On the other hand, maybe I would never have found Mentoring for Free, which has changed my life in ways I never would have imagined. What's the larger purpose here?  I can't know for sure, I can only stay tuned and follow the hunches as they arrive.

Being open to what comes from the Temple of Wisdom is critical for long term success, and we master that by applying all of the lessons from Hill's powerful book.  Part of that mastery is to listen, hear and act in full faith that the Universe is smarter than we are.
