Chapter 2 Desire
When I was a little girl, I desired to be a nurse. I guess because my mom was a nurse, she took care of all our needs. At the time, my dad was a teacher. However, I still wanted to become a nurse. My mother was not crazy about the idea. She thought it was too hard. That was then. This is now.
Nowadays, modern technology has taken over. We do not do too much manual work. Nurses have aides. Doctors have Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants. Dentists have Dental Hygienists. Lawyers have Legal Aides. The advantage is that everyone has help. That is what many people did not foresee many years ago. Although I lived to witness these changes, I did not pursue nursing.
Instead, of studying medicine or nursing, I studied Psychology. That led to my training as a Lab Technologist. Today, I do not regret not following through. I always told my friends, "When you are a mother, you are an automatic nurse...you also become Dr. Mom."
Some how, that BURNING DESIRE is still in me, though. Because, a few years ago, I went back to school for MASSAGE THERAPY. The curriculum was similar to nursing too. As a result, I am a big proponent of self care. Actually, who is not? We are constantly, "GOOGLING" and self- diagnosing. Then, we go to the pharmacy to buy over-the- counter drugs.
I think that if that little girl did not have that DESIRE to help others heal, she would not be in the HEALTH/WELLNESS/FITNESS business today.
Thank you MFF Family,
