Chapter 6 – Imagination
Napoleon Hill says “YOU CAN DO IT! IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE!” He writes those sentences in all caps, so it must be important.
When I read these words, I think about what my hopes and dreams are. I’ve held a full-time job for most of my adult life, and have worked alongside people who also are working hard. Few talk about doing anything else besides working for a stable company and reaching retirement.
When I read “YOU CAN DO IT! IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE!” I think of Tom Schreiter’s story of going into his boss’s office, putting his feet up on the desk – leaving scuff marks, and telling his boss that Tom can’t fit his job into his schedule anymore. He’ll be available at his usual consulting rates from 10 – 11am on Tuesdays. Tom packs up his personal belongings, waves good-bye to all his amazed office mates who said it couldn’t be done. He stops by the mail box, drives to the bank to deposit the bonus check that came in the mail, and relaxes with his favorite cold drink next to the pool.
Tom did it. Michael did it. And every time I hear Tom Schreiter’s story, I see myself doing it. I believe that I can do it. Picturing it over and over again in my mind and feeling that sense of freedom will make my vision a reality.
