Chapter 4 : Auto-Suggestion
First of all I would like to say thank you to Michael and the team at MFF for taking me through this chapter 4.
For me it has renewed my own Faith and Belief in Auto-Suggestion, which I used extensively in building our own
successful offline business which ran from 1982 until my neuromuscular diagnosis in 2006.
The lesson I learnt from that was: 'Don't ever take your eye off the goals and aspirations you have, and stop believing
in yourself, because of a major distraction, we must always continue to believe, whatever comes your way!'
Michele (my wife) and I begun discussing and talking about our problems, in a negative way, and seeing the danger
so clearly, of me not being able to continue working, and what it would do to our lives,etc...
In other words our self talk had gone 'negative' and it literally destroyed everything around and all our fears proceede
to materialize, one after the other.
We had simply lost our Faith and grown our FEAR!
That was not what we were taught, by our mentors at the time we were inspire to start a business of our own.
I am going back now, in the hope that it will help others to understand the reality of having a clearly defined
"Staement of Purpose" that we can read aloud to ourselves everyday, with emotion and feeling, in order to realise our
Dreams and Aspirations in life.
It was spurred on, not by Napoleon Hill and this book directly, but I am sure his strong influence, inspired
one of my mentors at that time in my life!
The person I am referring to is a guy called Skip Ross, and his words were much on the same lines as Michael has
continualy expressed. 'Whatever you say to yourself, will certainly happen, so be mindful of how you talk to yourself,
all the time.' i.e Your Self Talk is so important! (I have just shown you what happens when it turns negative, and feeds fear)
His words and the short story he used, rung in my ears on many occasions, especially when we encountered a difficult patach in
He told the story of a young couple, who followed exactly all the steps they were taught, on how to succeed in their new business,
but despite the excellent training and advice they were receiving, were not really succeeding to attain their dreams!
Skip realized immediately what their problem was and asked them, "Who are you talking to about you problem?" To which they
replied "Oh no, we don't talk to anyone about our problems!" .... Skip just didn't accept ther answer and asked them again,
" "Who do you talk to about it?" They gave the same answer, several times ... untill... they suddenly realised that they were talking
to each other about it, ALL THE TIME!!
When they realised what they were doing, they changed their self talk to the more precise and positive mode of visualizing their success
and very soon after they were able to succeed in their quest.
That has worked for me too, and along with incredible advice from Zig Ziglar as well as Skip Ross, Michele and I, went on to build a very
successful business, by defining our goals and aspirations in a specific and postive way, by becoming 'meaningful specifics' instead of
'wandering generalities' ( this time a Zig Ziglar quiote).
That is exactly what is defined in this chapter 4, for me at least, where Mr Hill shows us how to build a meaningful and specific self talk, by
referring us back to the previous chapter 2 on Desire, and the 6 steps, defined there, for us all to follow precisely.
Here, Napoleon Hill writes:
"You were instructed, in the last of the six steps described in the chapter on Desire, to read ALOUD twice daily the WRITTEN statement of your DESIRE FOR MONEY, and to SEE AND FEEL yourself ALREADY in possession of the money! By following these instructions, you communicate the object of your DESIRE directly to your SUBCONSCIOUS mind in a spirit of absolute FAITH."
I have carried out this instrauction again and I have to say that it has already made a huge difference to me. I feel so much more positive
in my outlook, because I have redefined my Staement of Purpose, which I am now reading every morning when I wake
up and every evening before I go to sleep.
This again has been a huge step forward, for me, and I hope for many others here too.
Thank you for all your advice and guidance, Michael and all the team at MFF,
I am eternally grateful.
