Hill says: “First of all, decide the sort of specialized knowledge you require, and the purpose for which it is needed. To a large extent your major purpose in life, the goal toward which you are working, will help determine what knowledge you need”. He then goes on to enumerate the sources of specialized knowledge, namely,(1) your own experience and education, (2) experience and education derived from the master-mind group, (3) colleges and universities, (4) public libraries and (5) special training courses.

The key to everything is your major purpose in life. Think and Grow Rich was written at a time of great economic turmoil and its chief purpose was to give confidence to those struggling to earn a living, hence the emphasis on the accumulation of money. However, if you read “The Five Steps to Self-confidence” and many other parts of this great book, you will see that Hill regards purpose as being much wider than a desire to accumulate money for its own sake. Take for example the statement: “I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness and cynicism by developing love for all humanity because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success”. In other words, money should help you achieve your purpose. Money should serve mankind.

He says: “A man is educated who knows where to get knowledge when he needs it and how to organize that knowledge into definite plans of action”. He stresses that a primary source of specialized knowledge is the master-mind group. The group, of which we are members, is a source not only of specialized knowledge of network marketing but also of self-development. We develop by participating in discussions on the chapters of Hill’s book. We are encouraged to formulate a purpose and say a self-talk derived from it, many times each day. In this way as, Hill explains, we are influencing our subconscious minds to seek the inspiration we need from Infinite Intelligence to create the plans to achieve our purposes.

What Hill describes as Infinite Intelligence is, to my way of thinking, none other than the Holy Spirit of God, the source of all that is good and life-enhancing. This power will respond only to requests for help for worthy causes. Money-making for selfish ends, for self-aggrandizement or vanity will not, in my opinion, prevail with Infinite Intelligence. To create successful plans, we need the inspiration to formulate workable plans for the accumulation of money.  Hill states: “Remember the idea is the main thing. Specialized knowledge may be found just around the corner - any corner".
