Chapter 3 Faith
Hill tells us in this chapter that faith is an emotion, "a state of mind which may be
induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind,
thorough the principle of auto-suggestion." With this definition Hill makes faith something
we can all create and use every day. How do we do that? Hill assures us that this state of mind develops
"voluntarily," when we apply the thirteen principles described in the chapters of his book.
In other words, follow the instructions and you will succeed...or as Bob Shoaf tells us frequently, follow
the instructions and your success is guaranteed.
Like many of the people in this group I read this book at least once, maybe twice years before I
was involved with Mentoring for Free. I can imagine I told myself what a great book it was and
how I needed to follow the ideas. And then I put it on the shelf and moved on to another book
or workshop hoping for a quick and magical solution to all that ailed me.
As I look back at that early experience and some of the other books I have read since then,
I see that they all have essentially the same message. Hill was a pioneer in organizing and
presenting this material, and he inspired and continues to inspire the many others who came
after him. Now as I begin my sixth time through this amazing book I recognize that I have learned
a lot of things that reinforce the faith I now have in Hill's system and MFF. Here are just a few.
I've learned that one time through the book is not enough. On each trip through I learn something
new that strengthens my faith and makes me want to learn more.
I've learned that reading it on your own is a good start, but doesn't compare with reading it in a
mastermind group such as the one we have here. Everyone's insight is different and I learn a lot
from every post I read and from the group discussion and brain-storming.
I've learned that reading and understanding is not enough. I need to absorb the information and
make it my own so that I can share it by example as well as by words.
I've learned that to really get it, to experience the state of mind called faith voluntarily as Hill
describes it, I need to put the ideas to work every day. That means starting with a burning desire
and supporting its manifestation by creating powerful self talk and saying it hundreds of times a day
with positive emotion.
I've learned that I need to get out of my head and take action every day knowing at the heart
level that I will succeed if I just don't quit.
Do you want to develop the faith you need to succeed in your business and your life? Start by
participating in the Think and Grow Rich Mastermind, read the lessons, post a lesson plan and
speak up. Your faith in the system and in yourself will develop voluntarily, and the success you
want will happen, guaranteed.
